Obsidian Scorpion

An extremely magical creature native to the ashen landscape surrounding Mount Ferrum and Mount Spire. Obsidian Scorpions were made completely of inorganic material; they were naturally occurring golems.

Instead of blood or internal organs, obsidian scorpions were filled with molten lava, which was the most obvious testament to their magical nature. The molten innards of obsidian scorpions also served as an excellent defensive mechanism. Injuries would cause this bubbling liquid rock to spew forth. This magmatic blood also doubles as its “venom”--instead of venom in its stinger, obsidian scorpions could inject or even project lava from their tails.

Fearsome appearance and potential aside, obsidian scorpions were typically docile creatures. Their magical nature allowed them to breed, live, and otherwise survive without needing much in terms of resources. They required no food, and therefore did not hunt. They were driven to attack when put into positions of danger, such as being trapped or cornered by humans, which hunted them to gain access to the magical properties of the magma and rock the scorpions were made of. Obsidian Scorpions would also hide themselves by blending into the surrounding volcanic terrain, helping them to avoid one of their main natural predators, phoenixes.

Obsidian Scorpions have a very wide range of sizes, spanning from 1 meter to 20 meters long.
